Clemson versus the University of South Carolina, the biggest matchup of the year for fans in the state of South Carolina, took place on November 24, 2018. It ended in a 56-35 victory for Clemson.
The rivalry dates back to 1896 and even though the game has changed drastically, the rivalry is still as strong as ever. Even though USC was a huge underdog in this game, it was entertaining as always.
The matchup of Trevor Lawrence and Jake Bentley was a great one to watch and it showed the talent of both quarterbacks. Bentley finished 32-50 passing with 510 yards five touchdowns and one interception. Trevor Lawrence finished 27-36 passing for 393 yards and one touchdown.
South Carolina battled for a majority of the game, but they lost some of their fire in the third quarter where they allowed 14 points but scored zero. Some positives that USC can take from this game are that they kept themselves in it with the second ranked team in the country and put up a good fight. This shows promise, especially since they had an upwards of 20 players injured in the game. Clemson really needed this win to stay in the College Football Playoffs and they got it, with a great performance from their running back Travis Etienne who had 28 carries for 150 yards and one touchdown. South Carolina found out just how special wide receiver Deebo Samuel could be during this game. He hauled in 10 receptions for 210 yards and three touchdowns.
