The Democratic Debate
- The third Democratic debate was scheduled to debut on the 13th of September
- Candidates had to receive at least 130,000 individual contributions, coming from 400 unique donors in 20 or more states
- Basically these candidates needed 130,000 from 20 different states to donate to their campaign along with at least two percent in four polls approved by the Democratic National Committee
- This means that at least 4 approved organizations must sponsor a candidate
- According to CNN, Joe Biden, Cory Booker, Pete Buttigeig, Julian Castro, Kamala Harris, Amy Klobuchar, Beto O’Rourke, Elizabeth Warren and Andrew Yang have met the criteria
Hurricane Dorian
- Hurricane Dorian devastated the Bahamas on August 30th, being a category 5 hurricane, with winds over 110 mph.
- This storm killed over 45 people, over a hundred are missing and 70,000 people are homeless, according to CNN Weather.
- On September 3rd, Dorain hit the coast of South Carolina, causing flooding in Myrtle Beach and heavy storms in Charleston
- People have started taking ferries to the US, to find refugee from these deadly conditions.

Hong Kong Protests
- The recent Hong Kong protests against the Chinese Government have gone from peaceful to violent in the last few months.
- The Hill says thousands of protestors are waving US flags and marching on the US Consulate in Hong Kong to try and get help from the Trump administration.
- Some wrote signs saying, “President Trump, please liberate Hong Kong” while some are smashing windows and setting fire to subway entrances
Afghanistan War
- Peace talks to end the longest war in US history has come to a halt, after President Trump called off a secret meeting with the Taliban.
- According to the New York Times, the meeting was supposed to be at Camp David, a retreat in Maryland for Presidents, but Trump canceled after the Taliban took credit for an attack in Kabul that killed dozens of people.
- Many had things to say about this meeting, some criticizing Trump’s efforts to make peace and others saying calling off the meeting was the right call.
Cargo Ship Overturns
- NBC news says a cargo ship overturned off the coast of Georgia, causing four people to go missing.
- Many were able to be saved by the US Coast Guard, but a fire broke out on the ship, causing the four people to become trapped in the engine room.
- Officials are waiting for the ship to stabilize to save the last four crew members.
