Recap on Impeachment

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you have probably heard about the impeachment situation. Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, declared that the people had to prosecute the president; the Democrats decided to investigate the president. So, why are we deciding to try and impeach President Trump?

President Trump had a phone call with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, in which they talked about defense aid and international finances. Then, Trump asked President Zelensky to do some digging and find out information about Hunter Biden, Joe Biden’s son, who was working with the Board of Burisma Holding which is a Ukrainian natural gas company. The New York Times says this violated Trump’s oath of office, broke the Constitution and potentially bribed other countries. This caused a massive uproar in Congress. Currently, Trump’s phone call is being investigated and they are looking for evidence to take Trump to court.

Many Republicans are looking at Trump’s phone conversation and saying that he has done nothing wrong; he was only asking information that wasn’t hurting anyone. The Democrats are saying that President Trump was trying to hurt Joe Biden’s image and ruin his chances of getting the presidential vote, as people will not vote for someone involved in a scandal. This form of sabotage is looked at as reckless and an inappropriate act as president.
